Situated in the heart of Cambridge, just off St. Andrew's Street, the premises, originally used by Robert Sayle as a coach house, consisted of a motley assortment of buildings including a first floor daylight studio.
Successive photographers continued to adapt the property to suit changing techniques and technology. Among the photographers who occupied the buildings were Arthur Nichols (circa 1865) and John Palmer Clarke from 1895, but perhaps the best remembered by people today was the partnership of Ramsey and Muspratt.
