Cambridge Revisited

is a series of scenes of old Cambridge taken from glass plate negatives dating from 1860 to the early years of the 20th Century. They are the property of Peter Lofts, the last photographer to occupy the well known studio in Post Office Terrace before its closure for re-development in the mid 1980s.

This fascinating insight into the changing face of Cambridge shows a quiet University town with little industry - a far cry from the busy cosmopolitan city of today.

Many scenes are instantly recognisable; some show considerable alteration; others have disappeared completely.
